Vision and Values

Our Vision and Values

The IES mission is “to provide excellence in education provision within an international perspective“. We promote the development of young people who will have the capacity to contribute proactively to the creation of a better world. Through dynamic programmes, we strive to develop leaders for the future who are collaborative, communicative, enquiring, respectful and creative individuals with a passion for lifelong learning. Our students are encouraged to integrate at all levels from local to international through a range of diverse opportunities.

We are a member of the International Schools Association. ISA is an international non-governmental organization and the first educational NGO to be granted consultative status at UNESCO in the World (www.isaschools.org ). IES promotes a curriculum based on the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) and we are currently seeking authorisation to offer these programmes. Tertiary educational institutions throughout the world endorse the IBO and it is recoignised in all 21 South African Universities. More than two thousand schools in more than one hundred countries have more than half a million students enrolled in IBO programmes. It is considered to be the premier school leaving qualification. The IBO aims “to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.” (www.ibo.org)

Hout Bay is a microcosm of the South African national context. This presents an opportunity to establish a model of quality education that plays an essential role in building an integrated local, national and international community.

Mr Andy Wood, has been appointed as Principal to lead the school in its development and to realize our educational vision for Hout Bay. Within this context, the International School of Hout Bay, strives to be a respected and integrated member of the community by:

* Providing educational excellence, which is contextualized to our local environment.
* Embracing and celebrating our cultural diversity.
* Engaging with the community within which we live.

We will achieve this by developing purpose-built facilities on appropriate land. This will enable us to:

* Offer the highest quality of academic education.
* Provide an extensive programme of sport, performing arts, culture and community outreach.
* Expand our educational offering and opportunities to a greater number and a broader range of students.

We are ambitious in what we aim to achieve and we seek to develop in our students the same ambition for what they will do with thier lives.
